Ford hasn't yet released the official production numbers for the 2012 Boss Mustang, but a bookstore might have.

Yeah, you read that correctly. Borders, the bookstore chain, may have inadvertently released the Boss's planned production numbers.

How? By producing a preview to an upcoming book, Boss Mustang: The Return of the Baddest Mustang of all Time. The book is due next April and Border's description of the book gives these details:

For the 2012 model year, Ford is at long last reviving the most revered of all Mustang models. The Boss is back. As with the first iteration, the new Boss Mustang will be built for two model years only, and just 4,000 cars will be produced each year: 3,500 street cars and 500 “R” race cars.

Doing the math, that means full production will be limited to just 8,000 models, if that information is true. At this point, though, there is no way to know if that's true or not, and even if those numbers are correct, Ford could change plans. This is a story that bears watching if you're a Mustang geek.

The use of a second key to unlock extra potential in a vehicle isn't exactly new: Bugatti's mind-blowing Veyron has a special tumbler-tickler that will let it hit 253mph; the Segway PT offers different fobs for different speeds. But such high-tech foppery on a Mustang? Yes, Ford continues to impress as the domestic marque with the techiest toys, announcing that buyers of next year's Boss 302 can purchase an optional TracKey package, shown after the break. Take the standard black key and you'll have a rip-roaring, 444hp monster. Take the red key, though, and you'll see how fast that pony can run down the rabbit hole. The car detects a different RFID chip in the fob and loads a secondary, track-specific engine tune, tweaking 200 ECM parameters to boost everything from throttle response to engine braking. It'll turn a semi-civilized muscle car into a completely track-ready monster, including launch control. When it's time for a more leisurely cruise users can just switch back to the black key, return to daily driver status, and leave Wonderland -- for a little while, at least.

Hij is erg leuk de nieuwe boss, zeker nu Ford Racing bijna de nieuwe SC uitbrengt, die haalt soepeltjes 624 PK's uit de 5.0L en dan is de boss redelijk de Boss denk ik

die grap die nu in de sleutel zit gebouwd kun je ook in het gaspedaal zetten.
een kleine module ertussen en je kunt 3 standen selecteren, die de reactie van de auto "ernstig" beinvloeden.
wat dat soort zaken aangaat, is alle nieuwe electronica wel leuk

Dus: zij de zwarte en jij de rooie sleutel.

Alsof zij met de die 444 PK onder de zwarte sleutel de banden niet volledig op zou roken en zijwaarts de rij winkelwagentjes tot oud ijzer zou degraderen....

Dat terzijde, vind ik het geweldig dat er een nieuwe Boss komt. Die zwarte velgen zijn wel mijn ding niet, dan maar de Laguna Seca versie
