helaas kent Stockton ook een duistere kant, en is het een van de geweldadigste steden in de USA:
Stockton has had a reputation for high crime rates relative to other cities in the region. The city has made efforts to reduce this rate, including improvements to public venues, using a "broken windows" strategy of linking city repairs to reduced rates, as modeled in Los Angeles.[33] In 2009, Forbes magazine reported Stockton to be on their list of the nation's most dangerous cities, at number five.[34]
In 2005, Forbes magazine listed Stockton as having 6,570 crimes per 100,000 residents[35] — the highest listed;[36] and 0.8% of engineers within total employment[37] — the lowest listed.[36] The city had the 7th lowest (of 150) educational attainment (bachelor's degree or higher over the age 25).[38] However, in 2009, Forbes reported Stockton was no longer the most dangerous city, moving to number five. Based on FBI statistics for 2010, Stockton had the most crime of any California city per person, and it ranked second for violent crime. Stockton ranked as the country's tenth most violent city[citation needed].
According to the San Joaquin County district attorney, the city of Stockton has the "second most violent crime rate in the state," while San Joaquin County is the fifth-most dangerous metropolitan area in the United States, which could be due to Stockton's proximity to Interstate 5 in the center of California, making it "a hub for the drug cartel between Mexico, Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia."[39]
The Cleveland Elementary School shooting

On January 17, 1989, the Stockton Police Department received a threat against Cleveland Elementary School from an unknown person. Later that day, Patrick Purdy, who was later determined to be mentally ill, opened fire on the school's playground with a semi-automatic rifle, killing five children, all Cambodian or Vietnamese refugees, and wounding 29 others, and a teacher, before taking his own life. The event received national news coverage and is sometimes referred to as the Cleveland School massacre.[40]
Then-Mayor Barbara Fass' subsequent work on gun control received national attention and sparked nationwide efforts that sought to ban semi-automatic military-style rifles like the one used in the shooting.
Popular singer and song writer Michael Jackson paid a visit to Cleveland Elementary School to see the children and families affected by this tragedy on February 7, 1989.[41]
Verder helaas weinig sporen van de Mustang zelf kunnen vinden. Ik heb flink wat Hobbs-en (achternaam van de vorige eigenaresse) een mailtje gestuurt. Helaas maar van 2 reaktie (van de 15) ontvangen. Beide waren niet bekend met de eigenaresse.
wel weer leuk was dat één van hun haar roots heeft in Duitsland, en in een plaatsje iets verderop nu woont, genaamd 'Ripon', wat vroeger een Nederlandse kolonie is geweest.
De zoektocht word nogal lastig gemaakt, aangezien de familie Hobbs geen vreemde daar is. Sterker nog, was dat de een van de eerste families in California. In 1853 kwam de eerste familie Hobbs,vader Vincent Hobbs, zich daar settelen. De familie kwam uit Potomac River ten zuiden van Hagerstown, Maryland. Deze plaats valt nu onder West Virginia, wat vroeger tot 1863 tot Virginia hoorde. De reden dat Vincent Hobbs naar California kwam was omdat hij een flinke lap grond zocht voor het opvoeden van zijn kids (hij schijnt er nogal wat gehad te hebben).Our small town of Ripon (approximately 10 miles southof Stockton) was originally a Dutch settlement. We have a lot of "Van der..." last names and such. My parents immigrated to California from Bremen Germany, so we are almost neighbors!
Kortom, het is zoeken naar een naald in een hooiberg, maar ik blijf doorzoeken! Ik heb de vorige eigenaresse ook een brief gestuurd, echter, zoals ik in een vorig bericht al had gezet, is ze op 5 december 2011 overleden. Ze woonde in een trailerpark aan Highway 99 4900 te Stockton. Ze heeft nog 2 broers en een zus (of 2 zussen, dat is niet helemaal duidelijk), ook zij wonen, voor zover ik heb kunnen vinden, in hetzelfde park. De brief die ik heb gestuurd komt zo hopelijk toch nog in de juiste handen terecht.
De dame uit Ripon zou een oproepje voor mij plaatsen op haar Facebook, in de hoop er zich alsnog een Hobbs meld die mij verder zou kunnen helpen, of de vorige eigenaresse gekend heeft.
