Opgetekend door Randy Leffingwell, uit de mond van Carroll Shelby himself, in het boek 'Shelby Mustang; racer for the street' (blz. 56-57);

For weeks, Brock labored over a new logo. The Cobra-Mustang concept plagued him. During one of several discussions that Shelby had with Miles, Remington, Brock and Ford personnel, the subject again came around to what the new car should be called. Ray Geddes explained that car model names required legal approval and formal registration. Using engine designations for car names was fine, they agreed, until specifications changed-and the stamped badges and printed material became obsolete. Numbers that weren’t tied to anything, however, could be changed or upgraded whenever a manufacturer chose. A number that suggested more than it revealed was ideal. The model could continue for several years, receiving constant upgrades, without alerting sanctioning bodies. Shelby, anxious to get the matter settled, asked Remington to estimate the distance from their conference room to the shops across the street. Everyone made their guesses and Remington paced it off. He came back an announced it at 350 feet. “Fine,” Shelby said. “Let’s call the little car the GT350. If the car’s good, the name won’t matter, and if it’s no good, the name won’t matter.”

Sommige uitspraken moet je niet (willen) vertalen en deze quote is er zo één. Ik vind 'm bijna Cruyffiaans.
